Panhandle Cattle Company is a family ranching operation in the Nebraska Sandhills. After over 100 years of producing purebred and commercial Red Angus and Hereford cattle, we switched gears and sold the cow herd.
In 2012, we purchased our first 10 goats and a new adventure began. Since that time, we have expanded to over 80 producing does. We strive to treat our goats as we would a commercial cattle operation. We keep excellent records including birth weights, weaning weights and mature doe weights.
Our goats have done very well in the show ring since the beginning. In addition to county fair champions, Panhandle Mittens was the 2014 Nebraska State Fair Grand Champion Commercial Doe. Since then we have produced at least one county fair champion each year. In 2017, Panhandle goats were Grand and Reserve Champion at both the Sheridan and Dawes County fairs. Panhandle does were also crowned Grand Champion Breeding Doe at both Sheridan and Dawes Counties in 2017.
Our herd sires include “Chrome”, a California bred buck that we purchased at the National Boer Goat Show in 2014. At the 2016 National Boer Show, we purchased “Hoosier”, an Indiana product, to complement the Chrome daughters. This has been an outstanding combination. In 2015, we began experimenting with crossbreeding when we purchased a set of 30 Savanna does. We really like the maternal characteristics of the Savannas as they have added a new dimension to our breeding program.
We have come a long way since 2012. We are very excited with the direction that our program is going and the success of our goats in the show ring. We invite you to stop in and tour the operation any time.
We strive to produce high-quality show goats, but most importantly, we want you to have a great experience with your Panhandle-bred goat.
